An agreement to offer a joint MA programme between the University of Nicosia (UNIC) and Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) as of September 2019 was signed in December 2018 during an official ceremony at UNIC.

The landmark programme will allow students to spend a year each in Cyprus and Russia and receive diplomas from both universities upon graduation.

The agreement was signed by the Rector of UNIC, Professor Philippos Pouyiotas, and the Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs at MGIMO, Mr Andrey Baykov. Present at the signing was H.E. Mr. Stanislav V. Osadchiy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cyprus, who wished both universities the best of luck in their joint endeavour. Also present at the signing were UNIC faculty members; Senior Vice Rector Andreas Polemitis, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Edna Yamasaki, and Dean of School of Law Achilles Emilianides.

In signing, Vice Rector Baykov thanked the Russian Ambassador and the Russian Cultural Centre for their support in the endeavour, and stated that the collaboration between the two leading universities was very promising; offering the opportunity for the creation of partnerships in other areas between Russia and Cyprus.

In turn, Rector Pouyioutas thanked Vice Rector Baykov for his visit, and for his role and support in securing the joint MA partnership. He further acknowledged what an honour it is for UNIC to collaborate with one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
