Admission requirements

For entry to the Doctoral Program, applicants must be holders of a Master’s Degree in a relevant area of studies from the accredited institution.
Candidates for Ph.D. should submit the Application along with all supporting documents:
- Accredited Master’s Degree and good academic record
- Proof of English Language proficiency (please see below)
- Ph.D. research proposal 1500-2000 words proposing the particular theme and questions to be analysed during studies, aim and objectives, research methodology, literature listing to be used in research studies.
- Personal Statement (700-1000 words) highlighting applicants’ academic interests, goals, and expectations as for the Ph.D. studies at a particular institution as well as describing personal strengths and competencies indicating the suitability of a candidate for the doctoral research program.
- Reference letters (or Letters of Recommendation) from former lecturers or other professionals (employers) who know the candidate personally from the perspective of professional or academic skills, abilities and attitudes and can suggest the applicant for the Ph.D. studies.

English Language Proficiency
English Proficiency Requirements for Doctoral Degree in Cyprus
The applicants for the Ph.D. research program have to present an English language proficiency certificate.
- Minimum TOEFL scores 550-600 for paper-based examination or 212-250 computer-based results; IELTS with a score of 6.5; GCSE “O” Level with minimum “C”.
- Applicants whose previous degree was taught in English are not required to submit a language proficiency certificate.
Duration of Ph.D. studies and program structure
Ph.D. students can enrol in the program either in October or February (Fall or Spring semester). Usually, there is a call for application announced by the university.
The duration of any Ph.D. program is generally 3 years or 6 semesters.
The doctoral course of studies can be divided into a few phases.
Initially, Ph.D. students are expected to take relevant courses, (research methodology, literature review, etc.), the number of ECTS credits may vary depending on the program a Ph.D. student is pursuing.
In the preliminary stage, students are expected to complete their research proposal (7.500-10.000 words). The final stage is thesis writing and its formal defence.
