Student Application Process for entry to study in the Republic of Cyprus
The application process explained
Students that are Non-EU Citizens are required to apply for a Student Visa and Temporary Residence Permit. EU Citizens that wish to study in Cyprus are not required to apply for a Visa but still need a Temporary Residence Permit. All prospective students are required to initially enrol at their University of choice in Cyprus, once formal acceptance has been obtained then documents will need to be sent to the University:
Visa application form M58 (Application for the grant of a Visa to an Alien to enter Cyprus).
- Duly Certified copy of Passport or other travel documents with a validity of at least 2 years or at least the duration of studies;
- In the case of minors, duly certified parental approval of the suggested residence, officially translated in Greek or English;
- Duly Certified copy of Criminal Record from the official authorities of the country of residence, officially translated in Greek or English;
- Certified copies of academic record and qualifications:
- School Leaving Certificate and Mark Sheet;
- English Language Certificate;
- Bachelor’s Degree and Transcript.
- Evidence of English Language Proficiency (TOEFL, CEFR or IELTS);
- Duly Certified original medical examinations from their country of origin, with a validity of 4 months that prove the student does not suffer from:
- Hepatitis B and C;
- HIV;
- Syphilis;
- X-Ray for Tuberculosis.
- Receipt of payment of registration fees to the Educational Institution;
- Bank Account to include:
- Name of account holder;
- Account number;
- Balance of the account.
- Bank Statement – 1 month Validity:
- To show transactions of the account with a closing balance of €7,500 in the previous month, before applying to the University;
- Bank Swift receipt of €3,000 partial deposit payment;
- Duly Certified copy of the confirmation letter from a Banking Institution in the applicants country to cover the following:
- Financial ability to cover tuition fees;
- Living and repatriation fees;
- Certified confirmation letter of scholarship, issued by the awarding institution.
- Fully completed and signed application form M58.
A completed Visa application must be emailed or posted to your chosen University with copies of original documents, processing time would normally be within 2 weeks but at busier times could take up to 1 month. Original documents are required to be shown at the time of interview, together with any other information the University requests.
If a Visa application is rejected, the applicant will receive a letter detailing the reasons for rejection. The applicant may reapply after 3 months, ideally taking into account and correcting the reasons for rejection. The applicant is allowed to appeal within 30 days of the rejection, to the Cypriot Embassy, highlighting their reasons why the application should have been approved.

Residency application form M61 (Application for the issue of Residence Permit).
- Application to be made within 10 days from the date of entry to the Republic;
- Duly Certified copy of Passport or other travel documents with a validity of at least 2 years or at least the duration of studies;
- Duly Certified original medical examinations from their country of origin, with a validity of 4 months that prove the student does not suffer from:
- Hepatitis B and C;
- HIV;
- Syphilis;
- Chest X-Ray for Tuberculosis.
- Proof of comprehensive health insurance, except if the applicant is automatically insured with his registration to the Educational Institution;
- Duly Certified copy of the confirmation letter from a Banking Institution in the Republic to show:
- Applicant has transferred sufficient funds to their personal account;
- Financial ability to cover tuition fees;
- Accommodation and living expenses.
- Personal Bank Guarantee or Bank Guarantee from the Educational Institution for repatriation expenses;
- Details of living accommodation in Cyprus;
- Two passport size photographs;
- Receipt of payment for application fees;
- Fully completed and signed application form M61.
As a guide, the completed Residence Permit processing time normally takes about 3 months.

Upon arrival to Cyprus via Larnaca or Paphos Airport the student will be required to present to the Immigration Authorities the following:
- Original Passport;
- Copy of Entry Permit (Visa stamped if applicable) issued by the Migration
- Department or the Ministry of Education of the Republic;
- Registration letter from the University;
- Receipt of payment for the Deposit to the University;
- Cash money to the minimum of €2,000 to cover personal expenses.

Employment of Students.
Students may find that they are too busy studying to undertake any form of work but if they find time then they are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week under certain conditions:
- Full-time Students of recognised Universities or College and some registered Colleges, providing entry was before the 31st May 2021;
- Equally treated as with Cypriot workers;
- Minimum labour standards should be observed.
The main documents required for those wishing to work are:
- A valid Residence Permit;
- An employment Contract, signed by both employer and employee;
- Time table of studies, these confirm that work will not clash with studies.
Employment of Students is allowed in the following sectors:
- Trade Repairs:
- Wholesale Trade Freight Handlers;
- Gas Station and Car Wash Labourers.
- Health and Social Care:
- Caregivers in home for the Elderly.
- Household Activities:
- Domestic Worker.
- Agriculture:
- Animal Husbandry;
- Fisher Labourers.
- Manufacturing:
- Bakery Workers;
- Forage Production Labourers;
- Recycling Labourers;
- Night Shift Workers.
- Other Fields:
- Buildings Cleaning Service Centre;
- Drainage and Waste Processing Labourers;
- Distributors of Advertising and Informative Material.
- Food Industry:
- Food Delivery;
- Kitchen Assistants;
- Cleaners.
- Hotels:
- Kitchen Assistants;
- Cleaners.
- Restaurants – Recreational Centres:
- Kitchen Assistants;
- Cleaners.
Students that want to work should first get their Student Permit from the Immigration Authorities, they should then sign a Contract of Employment with an Employer and then submit it to the District Employment Office for approval. The Employment Office will check the main conditions and if satisfied will approve the contract.

Researcher
The University Student researcher is responsible for all aspects of the research project by enlisting the aid of any required supervisory adults (Adult Sponsor, Qualified Scientist, etc.).
The project may include:

- Data Analysis;
- Any other process related to the project.
The Cyprus Startup Visa Scheme
The “Cyprus Startup Visa” scheme allows talented entrepreneurs from Third Countries to apply as individuals or as part of a team to enter, reside and work in the Republic to:
- Establish;
- Operate;
- Develop a Startup with a high growth potential.
The goal of the scheme is:
- To create new jobs;
- Promote innovation and research;
- Contribute to the development of the business ecosystem and consequently to the Cypriot economy.
The scheme supports the establishment of new innovative Startups or the move of established innovative Startups to Cyprus. The scheme started on the 1st June 2022 and is ongoing until the 31st May 2024.
To obtain a Scientific Visa, researchers are required to complete form M58 and submit it with supporting documents to their future employer/host organisation in the Republic. The completed form then requires sending to the Migration Authorities for evaluation.

- Duly Certified copy of Passport or other travel documents, with a validity of at least 2 years or at least the duration of studies;
- Duly Certified copy of Criminal Record from the official authorities of the country of residence, officially translated into Greek or English;
- Duly Certified original medical examinations from their country of origin, with a validity of 4 months that prove the student does not suffer from:
- Hepatitis B and C;
- HIV;
- Syphilis;
- X-Ray for Tuberculosis.
- Hosting agreement signed by the host and the applicant;
- Statement of financial responsibility for the applicant issued by the host;
- Fully completed and signed application form M58.
After arrival into the Republic the applicant is required to apply for the issuance of a Temporary Residence Permit, form M61:

- Application to be made within 10 days from the date of entry to the Republic;
- Duly Certified copy of Passport or other travel documents with a validity of at least 2 years or at least the duration of studies;
- Duly Certified original medical examinations from their country of origin, with a validity of 4 months that prove the student does not suffer from:
- Hepatitis B and C;
- HIV;
- Syphilis;
- Chest X-Ray for Tuberculosis.
- Proof of comprehensive health insurance, for the coverage of corpse transport;
- Contract of Employment from a University in Cyprus;
- Original entry permit;
- Confirmation of a Personal Bank Account in Cyprus;
- Details of living accommodation in Cyprus:
- Tenancy/Rental Agreement signed by the President of a Community Council and witnessed.
- Fully completed and signed application form M61.
After approval of Visa and Residency Permits, the applicant is required to visit the Social Insurance District Office in Nicosia, before commencement, on the date or 1 to 2 days of employment in order to apply for a Social Security Number. The Human Resources (HR) Department of the University will provide all the documentation required for the application.
Upon completion of the application it is required that the applicant returns back to the HR Department with submission of the following:
- Bank Account Number (IBAN);
- Social Security Number;
- Copy of Alien Registration Certificate.
The International Students and Staff Office will inform the applicant when the Temporary Residence Permit will be ready, this could take up to 3 months. It must be noted that the Permit will be automatically cancelled if the applicant stays abroad for a period of more than 3 months. The Temporary Residence Permit is valid for 1 year, therefore it is important for the applicant to reapply for an extension/renewal when nearing expiration, using form M61.

Pupils
Minors studying in Cyprus
Study for Children (Minors under the age of 18 years) in Cyprus, whether they are resident in the Republic or from abroad benefit from a World Class Education System.
Families that live in the Republic and wish to send their child to a Boarding School in Cyprus may do so, children wishing to study and reside in Cyprus from abroad may need to apply for a Visa and Temporary Residence Permit, this is dependent on the country they are currently living.
Students who are under the age of 18 are classed as minors and therefore require duly certified parental approval for allowing their child to study and reside in Cyprus, this needs to be officially translated in Greek or English, further certified documentation is also required:
- Correspondence in the form of a letter signed by both parents or legal guardians, authorising the minor to apply for a visa to enter Cyprus;
- Proof of the relationship between the minor and authorising person(s) is also required, this must be in the form of:
- Copy of ID or Passport for each parent;
- Copy of minor’s birth certificate stating the parents names;
- Death certificate (where applicable);
- Sole Custody to bear a copy of a judicial document confirming the custody arrangements.
The Visa application for Students/Minors is required by submitting and completing form M58, this form is available to download from the Civil Registry and Migration Department but we at Rideo Group will be happy to provide the necessary forms and relevant fees information.

- Acceptance letter from the boarding school;
- Receipt of payment of registration fees to the boarding school;
- Fully completed and signed application form M58.
