Who Does Not Require a Visa to Travel to Cyprus?
A common question among travellers planning a short visit to Cyprus is whether a travel visa is necessary. While entry visas may be required for some countries and holders of non-regular passports, there are regulations that dictate the allowable duration of stay.
Who Is Permitted to Enter Cyprus Without a Visa?
– Holders of Diplomatic passports from most countries.
– Citizens of all EU Member States, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. They can also travel using their national ID card as long as it includes a photo.
– Holders of a valid temporary or permanent residence permit issued by EU countries.
– Individuals possessing a permanent or temporary residence permit issued by the Civil Registry and Migration Department.
– Holders of multiple entry Schengen visas.
– Holders of travel documents issued to recognised refugees under the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees of 28 July 1951. These individuals do not require a visa to enter Cyprus if their travel documents are issued by a Schengen member state or a state listed in Annex II to Council Regulation 539/2001, along with its amendments.
– All flight crew members who hold a Flight Crew Member’s License or a Crew Member Certificate issued under the Chicago Convention.
– The civilian crew of ships.
– Holders of travel documents issued to stateless persons under the Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons of 28 September 1954. These individuals do not require a visa if the documents are issued by a Schengen member state and if the holders of these documents are residing in that Member State

Residence Permit Application
Any individual who enters Cyprus legally has the opportunity to apply for a residence permit in Cyprus, subject to the category of the permit that allows for such application within the country. The following are the categories of residence permits that travellers who have entered Cyprus can apply for while being in the country:
- Visitors
- Family Members of Cypriot or EU Citizens who are legally residing in Cyprus.
- Permanent Permits under Category F and Category 6.2.
- Status Change for Residence Permits due to marriage with a Cypriot or EU national.
However, it’s important to note that the categories of employment and student permits generally cannot have their status changed while within Cyprus. This is because these individuals should have obtained a valid entry permit prior to their arrival.
