In many countries, the Vows of the Bride and Groom is one of the main and long-standing wedding traditions.
Each country has its own characteristics when it comes to culture and religion. Within Europe the Oath is divided into 2 parts:
- Official – This is where words are repeated within a Church (VIcar/Priest/Clergyman) or at a Municipality (Registry Office etc);
- Personal – This is from the Heart with words spoken directly to a partner.
Once the official Oath and personal words have been acknowledged and if everything is clear, there are questions:
- What to say;
- How to say;
- How much to say.
Have a look at the following ideas which may help you write your wedding vows:
- Prepare your Oath in advance;
- Be sincere in your words;
- It is better to include words from the heart rather than a long winded speech.
What to write about?:
- Include:
- Feelings;
- Love;
- Admiration;
- Inspiration;
- Fears;
- Humour.
- Gratitude – What you are grateful to your partner for;
- Dreams and desires for family life;
- Aspirations:
- What you want for a great future;
- What you want to do together;
- How you both want to be a successful team.
- Words – What you as a future couple want to say about each other.
Importantly – Included within the Oath should be the creation of family and love.
