The procedure and documents required for the preparation and registration for marriage in the Republic of Cyprus. Let’s look at that options in more detail:
If Both partners are UK Citizens then a standard package of documents are required:
- Copy of each parties Passports;
- Certificates that confirm either are not currently married, this document needs to be certified by a Notary Republic. The certification must have a validity period of 3 months;
- If either party is Divorced or Widowed a certificate must be produced from the Court confirming that this is the case.
If the marriage is between UK Citizen and a Citizen of another country:
- Copy of each parties Passports;
- Certificates that confirm either are not currently married, this document needs to be certified by a Notary Republic. The certification must have a validity period of 3 months;
- If either party is Divorced or Widowed a certificate must be produced from the Court confirming that this is the case.
- The UK Citizen requires an Apostille certificate of Non-Impediment issued by the General Registry Office at the local UK Town Hall. The document will certify that the person is unmarried and is issued within a month, therefore taking this into account care must be taken when planning a wedding;

If a UK Citizen currently resides in Cyprus:
- Copy of valid Passport;
- Copy of the Republic of Cyprus residency Permit;
- Apostille certificate of Non-Impediment issued by the General Registry Office at the local UK Town Hall. The document will certify that the person is unmarried and is issued within a month, therefore taking this into account care must be taken when planning a wedding;
- Certificate of Non-Impediment issued by the Civil Registry of Migration Department in Cyprus,
- If the UK Citizen living in Cyprus was previously married and divorced in the Republic then it is necessary to inform the UK Civil Registry Office, the process for this is highlighted below:
- Certificate of Divorce to be translated from Greek to English;
- Certificates need to be sent to the Local Registry Office or Civil Registry Office in the UK, whereby they will issue a registration.
- Upon registration both Divorce certificates from the UK and the Republic will be required.
