A residency permit can be in the form of temporary or permanent depending on each individual’s circumstances.
Let’s look at the different categories for acquiring a resident permit in the Republic of Cyprus:
Temporary Residence Permit (Temporary Permit):
- One of the most popular ways to initially settle in Cyprus, is via a Visitors Visa (F Visa), this can be in the form of property purchase up to the value of up to €300,000.00 but to obtain a residency permit this is not required;
- An application of a Category F Visa can be undertaken even with a rental property;
- It is important to show confirmation of financial backing outside of the Republic of Cyprus;
- Students that have secured a University position within the Republic have the right to reside in Cyprus;
- Working in Cyprus (Work Visa) – This may be challenging as the Cypriot employer has to prove that you are indispensable (Cannot do without you). The Ministry of Labor ultimately looks at the evidence and makes their decision, a positive outcome is classed as Labor Immigration.
Permanent Residence Permit (Long-Term Residency in the Republic of Cyprus):
- Property owners purchasing residences from the developer in the Republic of Cyprus in excess of €300,000.00 excluding VAT. Once this has been completed the owner can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit;
- A Spouse of an EU or Cypriot Citizen currently residing in the Republic of Cyprus.
